Alaina Allison, LMHC

Licensed Mental Health Counselor

Alaina is a licensed mental health counselor that offers a warm, empathetic, non-judgmental environment where Clients can speak freely and comfortably about the stressors in their lives. I easily engage with people and I’m an empathetic listener. I’m very open to listening and discussing anything that is troublesome for clients. My areas of specialization are with Anxiety and Depression and I have experience working with children, adolescents and adults.

My theoretical orientations are based in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy. With clients I use a mixture of behavioral modification techniques, motivational interviewing, mindfulness and relaxation techniques. With Dialectical Behavioral therapy I like to help people learn how to live more in the moment to decrease anxiety and stress through different mindfulness techniques. When working with children I often help them learn how to identify different emotions and healthy ways to express themselves. I like to teach children how to identify different triggers and then coping skills tailored to their interests so it’s easier for them to utilize.

Alaina received her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from the State University at Albany. She obtained her Master’s Degree in Mental Health Counseling from Long Island University. As a psychotherapist one of my goals is to help people learn ways to manage stress in their lives and work through difficulties. By having them explore thoughts and behaviors to become more self-aware, they can start to make more positive changes. I am dedicated to helping clients make positive changes in their lives to help them obtain set goals and achieve personal growth.
